Discover Chicago’s emerging “blue-green corridor”
In Shedd Aquarium’s Kayak for Conservation program, we invite you to join us on one of two programs. You’ll paddle along the North Branch Canal of the Chicago River and visit Shedd’s River Islands, new, uniquely designed floating habitat. Along the way, you’ll learn about the Chicago River ecosystem. Additionally, you will discover the native flora and fauna above and below the water’s surface and learn how this new habitat is benefiting native wildlife.
Friends of the Chicago River is the only organization solely dedicated to the Chicago River. Since 1979, Friends has been working to improve the health of the Chicago River system for the benefit of people, plants and animals. By doing so, has laid the foundation for the river to be a beautiful, continuous, and easily accessible corridor of open space in the Chicago region.
Urban Rivers mission is to transform city rivers into urban wildlife sanctuaries.
“We measure our impact through the number of students we reach with our curriculum, the number of visitors we inspire with our park, the amount of new habitat we create, and the number of graduate research projects we support.”
Patagonia grew out of a small company that made tools for climbers. Alpinism remains at the heart of a worldwide business that still makes clothes for climbing. Additionally, they create products for skiing, snowboarding, surfing, fly fishing, mountain biking and trail running. These are silent sports. None require an engine; rarely do they deliver the cheers of a crowd. In each, reward comes in the form of hard-won grace and moments of connection with nature.
